Mid Week Hygge

Mondays are tough. Especially after a warm and cosy weekend, full of all the things that you want to do and only a few that you have to.

How can you keep up that hygge feeling Monday to Friday? Here are some ideas.

  • When you get home from work, get changed out of your work clothes straight away and into something comfy. You’re firmly saying “This is My time now”.
  • Go out for dinner to a cosy restaurant with someone special… Especially if that’s not something you’d usually do. Even better if it’s softly lit with candles or a real fire, in comfy surroundings and relaxed dress code. We’ve got a guilty pleasure of tia maria and coke on winters evenings and mulled cider always slips down nicely…
  • Take a bath at a time when you won’t be interrupted by children / dogs / other half. Light candles and use an aromatherapy oil and just relax as the aromas climb in the air. Jo Malone is an extravagance but lovely…
  • Listen to some relaxing music that you wouldn’t normally choose. Just listen & close your eyes. It’s a bit weird at first if it’s not something that you’d usually do, but bear with us! We love Ludovico Einaudi.
  • Join a book club. You might make new friends and read books that you’d never even have thought of. And there’s often cake. Or wine.
  • Play a board game with your children or friends. Preferably one that doesn’t lead to competitive behaviour or arguing! Blockus is a favourite in our house and Uno is a hit too.
  • Watch a mid week movie. Nothing too strenuous or requiring concentration. This should be an escape. The trashier the better in our mind! Julie & Julia for example? The Notebooks always great.
  • Don’t let the dark nights put you off going for a walk. Country or city, get dressed up warm, take a torch if you need one and go with a friend. You’ll feel great when you get home again to a nice warm house. Have the hot chocolate at the ready!

And mostly enjoy. All too often we live for the weekend. Let us know how you’re going to have some hygge throughout your week!
